1942 US Mess Tin

This bowl is in two parts. There's a bottom, then a lid with a folding handle for closing and securing. This type of bowl was distributed to all U.S. Army soldiers during the Second World War. It fits into the musette bag or Havresac pouch available here. The bowl is dated on the handle 1942. Early model in tin-plated iron, from the battlefield.
